Poem: “Sorgho”

As mentioned on “Fathers Day,” my friend JT Whitehead is a real, published poet, and his recent work inspired me to take another crack at poetry, myself. As a lapsed English major, I’m also very interested in PROCESS, how writers do what they do, why they do it, what kinds of choices they make. I’m pleased with the current version of this poem — called “Sorgho” — but am also going to leave an earlier version here for feedback, along with a .pdf of the notes I drafted throughout the writing. As I get better with WordPress, I will also get better at making these posts, and my work, better pleasing to the eye. This will do for now, though. The first is my “current” draft, followed by the “replaced” draft; the third should be my working notes:

If you came there from Instagram, then I was successful uploading “Sorgho” to my feed, and, like it or not, you’ve found my blog. Come for the poems, read about recovery — bonus!

About the author

Paul Boger

I am a son, brother, husband, father, and improving friend, recovering from a hopeless state of mind and body. Rather than scribble on legal pads, in notebooks, and in the margins of novels, I've decided to do my journaling here. All opinions mine, unless otherwise attributed, and am learning to use this site as I go. Stay tuned.
